    Dian Fossey (/ d aɪ ˈ æ n /, Janu – c. Decem ) was an American primatologist and conservationist known for undertaking an extensive study of mountain gorilla groups from until her murder. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda, initially encouraged to work there by paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey. Doctoral advisor: Robert Hinde. Habitat conservation is a management practice that seeks to conserve, protect and restore habitats and prevent species extinction, fragmentation or reduction in range.
